2024-2025: Feature Column
Unfiltered my column has been brewing for quite a few years and when I finally became a senior I was ready to write out my unfiltered thoughts. The first issue was born from my frustration with the taboo around women's health issues. Some more issues I plan to write include, the dangers of banning books, how to promote emotional intelligence in teens, and many more topics we need to start talking about.

2023-2024: Center Feature
Caffeinated Culture For this piece I did a majority of the research and ran and organized the Google form and the interviews. This feature was especially important to me because as a journalist I myself run on caffeine and I wanted to know what more was happening behind the scenes and how it effects my fellow students.
2022-2023: In-depth Feature
District communications director Michelle Karpinski fulfills dream of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro started out as a class presentation that I then, with the help of my advisor turned into an in-depth feature. Mrs. Karpinski's story was intricate, it started pout in 2020 and need to be told in the correct order to get everything across. This meant many long sit down interviews. Luckily Mrs. Karpinski was patient and knew I would do her story justice.
2022-2023: Diversity Coverage
Senior Mina Koffron gives insight about the adversity and exclusion faced by Jewish students On this article I had multiple private interviews where Mina and I talked about the exclusion she was feeling from the schools scheduling and the lengths her and her family had gone to in order to prevent them. This story was especially unique because Mina and I had previously been friends, but writing this article and helping her fight for her rights caused our friendship to bud into a sisterhood.
2022-2023: Personal Narrative
"You were our Mary Poppins": How covid gifted me with an unexpected bond This story was originally an assignment that I did my first year of MIPA camp with Bobby Hawthorne where we had to tell the story of a photo. I told the story of the time I nannied for my aunt and uncle during Covid. Crafting this article was quite the feat. I had to find a way to express the growth and change I had gown through while taking them while still keeping the unique family dynamic intact.
2021-2022: In-depth Feature
Southwest Michigan Miracle League brings hope and baseball to participants This was the first "big article" I wrote for the Northern Light. I interviewed our school counselor Amy DiMaggio and her daughter, Ruby, who was part of the Miracle League team. This helped me understand that the world was a place I could have an impact on. I also distinctly remember my advisor getting an email from Mrs. DiMaggio wondering how I could be a freshman, as she was convinced I was a senior.

Back to Normal On this article, I interviewed some of the students with the guidance of our editor in-chief at the time. When it came to writing, I was in charge of the "Back to Normal" and "Moving Forward" section. This article and that editor in chief taught me how to listen the student body and share their stories in a constructive and affective way.
