Law, Ethics, and News Literacy

2024-2025

This was a very difficult article to write because there was so much discourse, fear, and possible bias involved. Luckily, I had the best team of new journalists working on it with me. We knew that this was an issue that needed to be discussed and introduced to the public. Setting up interviews was also very difficult, and in the end we decided not to interview any students because the risk was to great and we want the students at our school to feel the safest they can. After all, we never want to do more harm than good.

2022-2023

Where there is smoke there is fire: that's what started this article. The article started as a piece about religious diversity,  when I finally interviewed Mina I found out that there was so much more to the story than I had thought. Our district hadn't only been excluded from her graduation, the lack of religious calendar had caused Mina to be excluded from so many things throughout her high school career.  Writing this article was intricate work, I needed to do my best to stay unbiased and make sure the facts were being shown.

Ethics

During my senior year I was presented with the opportunity to be the social media manager of our schools wrestling page. I wanted the position because I had so many friends on the team but as an editor in our publications I needed to be sure to follow our ethical guidelines. My advisors and I drafted up some rules that needed to be followed and after everyone agreed to them the position was mine. Eventually some of these rules started to be broken and it was unanimously agreed that I should drop the publication before more issues could arise.
